The inspiration behind this artwork comes from renaissance era portraits of kings and queens. Typically the figures are painted with ostentatious depictions of their wealth and power. I decided to flip this idea and show the opposite, the corruption of wealth and power. Surrounded by the spoils of his position the central figure is alone, his family forgotten, his kingdom afire and himself blinded to it all.
