First artwork of 2021! This piece is for progressive metal outfit Tau Zero's upcoming full length "Monolith."
The monolithic machine on the cover is terraforming the planet through creation of an atmosphere and seeding of plant life onto the surface.

I was inspired by the Hudson River Valley painters and works by JMW Turner. I wanted to bring together the clean hard edges of Sci-Fi artwork with the romantic beauty of old masters paintings. I am very proud of the texture on the clouds and the swirling painterly look it has. Ironically all of my favorite parts of the painting are partially covered up by the title I put on.

Despite that I am also very excited about how the artwork mock turned out. I purposefully designed the title and logo to give a solid, impactful feel. I wanted the viewer to see the title and think MONOLITH in all it's immensity.

Glad to start off 2021 with a favorite project from 2020. I have been working with Tau Zero from the very beginning and it's always a pleasure executing the sick concepts they provide me with.
