In honor of the winter solstice ambient death metal group The Dark Alamorté has revealed the artwork for "Lunacrium Thepsis." The artwork is inspired by the storyline of "Lunacrium Thepsis" which tells the story of someone committing suicide and the build up to that point. The album begins with the main characters death after plunging off a cliff into the waves below.
I wanted to capture the feeling of haunting ambience and despair the band creates in their music. The monochromatic composition is designed to create a feeling of being closed in, suppressed and isolated. The twisted form washing away into the waves is symbolic of being purified, a concept I tied back to the Hindu tradition of spreading the ashes into the river Ganges. I highlighted forms of the torso and hands with the face distorted since we focus on those features first to avoid looking at the face of someone close to us who has passed.
This project has been one of my favorites working on this year. The band has a really neat sound and was wonderful to work with. I also had the pleasure of designing all the packaging and identity for this album. Which I will be revealing at a later date. "Lunacrium Thepsis" will be released February 12th 2021.
