The Holy Grail || Gloom

Album artwork for Florida based project The Holy Grail release “Gloom.” The concept behind this one is based on the conquest of the Aztec empire by the French. The scene depicts how the troops would use crows to locate hidden villages to conquer.

I was inspired by paintings of battle scenes with the chaos rendered out in a single moment on the canvas. I tried to create a dusty arid feel to the painting with the figures sticking out in all their armor and colorful garments. Foreigners in a foreign land bent on warfare and destruction.
