I started working on this piece way back in November of last year. The concept was to portray a figure caught up in a massive sandstorm with a distant light shining upon it. Looking back, it's very representative of the chaos and oppression felt during that time when the pandemic was it's peak. I heard the phrase "light at the end of the tunnel" quite a bit during those times and I definitely think that subconsciously influenced this painting.

I was also greatly inspired by the works of John Martin and JMW Turner. Especially the powerful brushstrokes and energy of "The Fifth Plague of Egypt."
