Album artwork for technical death metal outfit Exocrine's fourth album "Maelstrom." The band wanted to tie the concept back to their previous album "Molten Giant" with a massive behemoth dominating the cover. The creature design was inspired by a hammerhead shark skull and I very much enjoyed incorporating it into a tentacled Lovecraftian leviathan. I referenced several of JMW Turner's pieces when painting the chaotic enviroment and turbulent ocean. I very much enjoy the end result and appreciated the challenge of making a "big monster" style artwork into an oil painting.
